India’s Reliance Communications Ltd. and U.S. telecom giant AT&T Inc. have sounded out each other’s interest about a potential transaction in which AT&T would take a significant minority stake in the Indian cellphone company, according to people familiar with the matter.
The people characterized the informal discussions as very early, and cautioned that no deal is imminent, but said advisers and officials at the companies have been in touch in the past few weeks to explore the idea. Reliance, which is backed by billionaire Anil Ambani, said on Sunday its board has approved the sale of up to a 26% equity stake in the firm to raise cash for debt reduction and network upgrades. NEW DELHI: For those who might have wondered how Infosys’ top bosses managed to pocket high compensation for the fiscal 2009-10 despite the company posting a lower profit compared to the previous fiscal, here’s why.
Country’s second-largest software services provider by revenue has specified that because of currency fluctuation, the company’s top bosses got a hike in the total salary package. For the fiscal 2009-10, the company reported a lower profit of Rs 5,803 crore compared with Rs 5,819 crore in the previous year. Read more
